3 Common Air Handler Problems
Your Jupiter, Florida, home’s HVAC system has an outdoor and indoor unit. The indoor unit is the air handler, and just like the outdoor unit, it needs regular maintenance. Typical air handler problems include dirty air filters, clogged evaporator coils, and blower motor failure, all of which affect how well your system works.
Dirty Filters
HVAC air filters protect the components of your HVAC system from getting dirty and keep the air in your home clean. Not everyone knows they should be changing their filter once a month, and some people never change those filters at all. However, a dirty filter impedes airflow throughout the house and can actually cause debris that’s caught in the filter to float back into your home or deeper into your HVAC system.
Clogged Evaporator Coils
If you’ve been using a dirty air filter or you’ve never had a new, clean filter installed to begin with, your evaporator coils might be clogged. To perform their function correctly, they need to be clean. You might be able to see your coils if you open up your air handler, but you shouldn’t touch them. Instead, we can professionally clean them, but it’s better for your air handler if the coils stay clean in the first place.
Blower Motor Failure
The blower motor can fail for several reasons, and when it stops working, your HVAC system can’t deliver air through your ducts. We have to look at the system to figure out why the motor failed, and then we can either repair it or replace it. Running an HVAC system with a bad motor is at best inefficient and at worst actually dangerous, so don’t do it.
