3 Ways to Keep Your Home Energy Efficient During Winter
The perks of living in Florida include mild winters and year-round sunshine. You can reduce the energy costs in your Jupiter, Florida, home in very simple ways. We’ve come up with a few tips to help you to keep your home energy efficient this winter.
Freshen Your Air
If your home gets too stuffy during the winter, it’s time to open a window or turn on the fans. Make sure to flip that little switch on your ceiling fans so that they push warm air from the ceiling back to the floor. Doing so distributes the heat throughout your home and moves the air to prevent stuffiness. For some fresh air, open your windows for a few hours during the warmest part of the day.
Warm Yourself First
On those colder Florida days, you can still combat those chilly temperatures without turning on the heat or at least resist the urge to set the thermostat at too high a temperature. One of the easiest ways to stay warm inside a chilly home is to put on more clothing. Yes, we understand that Florida mindset, but you have to get out of the mentality of still dressing like it’s summer during the cold season. Dress appropriately by pulling out those sweaters, pants, and even socks while at home. You can also save on electricity costs by buying and turning on a small space heater in the room where you spend the most time. If possible, spend most of your time in rooms that get direct sunlight. Open windows, shades, or blinds to let the sun naturally warm your home.
Use Your Heater Wisely
When temperatures drop low enough, go ahead and turn on your central heating. To save energy and money, lower the temperature at night and add an extra blanket to your bed. Make sure to close all curtains and blinds to help keep the heat inside.
