4 Resolutions for Cleaner Indoor Air in the New Year
Indoor air quality is more important than many realize. As you resolve to make improvements this year, include indoor air quality as one way to take charge of your family’s health. A few smart resolutions and small changes could help your whole family breathe easier in 2016. If you are ready for a bigger investment in your Port St. Lucie, FL home, you may even want to consider installing an air cleaning system to give your home a fresh and healthy start.
Schedule Annual Maintenance
Regular maintenance is very important. If it has been a while since you had your system checked, contact your HVAC contractor to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Maintenance is recommended twice a year — in early spring so it will be ready for summer, and another for the heating system in fall, in preparation for winter.
Change Your Filters Regularly
Clean air filters do a better job at removing dust, dander, and other pollutants from the air. You should change your air filter every one to three months. Children and pets can cause more dirt, dust, and other pollutants to enter your home. If you have children and pets it is likely that you will need to opt for more frequent changes.
Switch to Natural Air Fresheners
Chemical-laden air fresheners can irritate your skin and lungs. Opt for a natural product instead, such as essential oils in a diffuser, or a potpourri of dried herbs. Simmering orange peels, apple peels, cloves, or cinnamon sticks in a small crock pot will release a lovely natural scent as well.
Consider IAQ Upgrades
If your family members are suffering from asthma, allergies, or other complaints that can be impacted by poor indoor air quality (IAQ), you may want to consider a system upgrade. You can also install an air purifier right in your HVAC system to remove pollutants from the air as it circulates in your home. A duct cleaning may help your IAQ as well.
