3 Signs Your HVAC Thermostat Has Stopped Working Effectively

With summertime quickly approaching in Fort Pierce, FL, it’s crucial that your HVAC system is ready to help you beat the heat. For that to happen, every component must work as designed, including your thermostat. If you notice any of the following warning signs, there’s a good chance that your HVAC thermostat is no longer working effectively:

Spike in Utility Bills

Some of the other signs we’re going to discuss may take longer to notice. But you won’t have to wait long to see a spike in your monthly utility bills. If your bills start rising quickly, it’s a sure sign that your HVAC system isn’t operating efficiently. Once you rule out other possible causes, you may discover that your thermostat is to blame for your lack of efficiency and increase in utility bills.

Inconsistent Temperatures

Depending on the size of your house, it can be difficult for your HVAC system to keep every room at exactly the same temperature at all times. A slight variance of no more than a degree or two may be normal in extreme heat. But you shouldn’t have significant temperature differences between different areas. If you do, it’s usually a sign that your thermostat is providing incorrect information to your HVAC system.

The Thermostat is Old

As is the case with every type of HVAC technology, thermostats have come a long way over the last few years. If you’re still relying on a thermostat that’s 10 years old or older, it may be time to upgrade to a new smart thermostat. Not only do smart thermostats give you more control over the comfort levels in your home, but they also boost energy efficiency.

If your current thermostat is responsible for causing your house to be less efficient and less comfortable, our team of service technicians can help you choose a new one. Call Preferred Air Conditioning & Mechanical, LLC today to find out more about smart thermostats and the rest of our HVAC services.
