HVAC Smart Systems Create Greener, Healthier Homes
These days, all the talk is about “going green,” saving energy and reducing your impact on the environment as much as possible. How do you go about it? Where do you start? One place to start is with your HVAC system. Here are several ways your HVAC system can help build a greener and healthier home for your whole family.
Greenspeed Intelligence Heat Pump
In milder winters, a heat pump is a more efficient way of heating your home than a regular furnace. And the most efficient heat pumps are the ones with Greenspeed intelligence.
Greenspeed Intelligence uses a variable-speed compressor to create better temperature regulation control. Traditional HVAC systems operate at full power no matter what, running until the thermostat reaches the desired temperature, and then stopping. But a variable-speed compressor allows the system to operate at as little as 40 percent capacity, providing only as much heating or cooling as necessary.
Infinity Thermostat Control
Not only that, but the system is smart, automatically adapting its output to your home’s needs at any particular time, keeping your home comfortable while saving energy during milder weather conditions. It does this using an Infinity thermostat control.
Whereas most thermostats simply measure and regulate temperature, an Infinity thermostat regulates temperature, humidity, airflow and indoor air quality, all from one control panel. It also lends itself to zoned heating and cooling, allowing different areas of your home to be regulated differently, according to their individual temperature needs. It can send you reminders to replace the air filter and perform diagnostics to let you know when something’s wrong — all to keep the system running efficiently at all times.
The thermostat is also WiFi enabled, so you can monitor and adjust all of these settings and notifications from a single device, such as a smartphone or tablet, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. With these features, an Infinity thermostat allows Greenspeed Intelligence to regulate your home’s temperature perfectly, while saving energy and reducing your carbon footprint.
Geothermal Systems
Another great way to save energy and go green with your HVAC system is to use the heat energy from the ground to heat or cool your home. No matter what the temperature is outside, the temperature about 10 feet or more below the ground remains constant at 50 degrees or so. A geothermal heat pump uses this to heat and cool your home.
The air from your HVAC system is circulated through a pipe buried underneath the ground. In the winter, it absorbs the heat from the 50-degree ground, warming it before a heat pump warms the air the rest of the way. In the summer, that 50 degrees gives the air a chance to cool down before being circulated through your home.
Geothermal heat pumps are a renewable source of energy that emit almost no greenhouse gases and seriously reducing your carbon footprint.
R-22 vs. R-410a
Your refrigerant is what your HVAC system uses to cool the air before circulating it through your home. R-22 has been the standard refrigerant in A/Cs for years. However, many scientists have linked the use of R-22 and similar chemicals to ozone depletion. Instead, many companies and individuals are switching to R-410a.
R-410a is EPA-approved and has been found to be non-toxic and much safer for the environment. Additionally, it works more efficiently than R-22 and can reduce energy costs.
HVAC Maintenance
The most important way of keeping your HVAC system running efficiently is regular maintenance. Have your system checked every year before heating and cooling season to make sure it’s in good shape and ready to go into action.
An HVAC professional will check all system components, tightening, cleaning and oiling them, along with other necessary services. This professional attention will keep your system running smoothly and efficiently and reduce the need for repairs later on. They’ll also check your thermostat settings to make sure your system will keep your house comfortable without wasting energy.
Regular HVAC maintenance keeps your HVAC system in top condition. It allows your system to run at peak performance and efficiency to reduce both your energy bills and your carbon footprint.
