Feel Cool All Year Long
Staying cool to stay comfortable is a year-round way of life in Palm Beach, Florida, and the surrounding communities. Your home’s air conditioning system is a central component of that comfort, and without proper maintenance it could cost you more than an unusually high energy bill. To keep cool and lighten your air conditioner’s workload this summer, invest in a professional spring tune-up and perform these three simple HVAC tasks.
Change the AC Filter
During the cooler months, which number in the few, you can get away with changing your air filter every two to three months. During the hottest months of the summer, though, you should change it every month for improved indoor air quality, greater system efficiency and increased cost savings. If possible, upgrade to a high-efficiency particulate arrestance filter for even better performance. A HEPA filter can trap particles as small as 3.0 microns, compared to an average filter that can only trap particles 10.0 microns or larger. The difference is worth the extra buck or two.
Adjust the Ceilings Fans
Unless there’s an unexpected cold front that sweeps through South Florida, there’s no need to adjust the ceiling fans for the winter. As such, take a look and make sure your home’s ceiling fans are set to rotate in a counterclockwise direction to create cool downward airflow and a welcoming wind chill effect.
Invest in a Dehumidifier
Controlling the humidity level inside your home is one of the best ways to reach your desired indoor temperature and avoid other threats to your comfort. During the summer, aim for a humidity of less than 50 percent to help keep your home cool. Throughout other times of the year, remain under 60 percent.
