Getting the Most from Your Dehumidifier

Even though we are fast approaching the official end of summer, Palm Beach Gardens will continue to experience several months of high temperatures. While it is not generally as humid at this time of the year, on those days when humidity is a problem you will want effective relief. A qualified HVAC technician can ensure your dehumidifier is in good working order so you don’t have to sacrifice indoor comfort.

You can take care of your dehumidifier, but if you are in doubt or if something seems complicated, your HVAC technician can provide valuable help. Otherwise, your technician can check on your dehumidifier during routine HVAC maintenance calls.

The Water Collection Tank

For almost every dehumidification system, the water collection tank must be emptied manually. When there are delays in doing so, or when the collection tank simply hasn’t been cleaned in a while, it can become a hotspot for mold and mildew. Not only does this growth decrease the indoor air quality in your home, it also reduces the dehumidifier’s efficiency. If you see signs of buildup, that may indicate further maintenance is necessary.

Check the Coils

Normally, you should have your system’s intake and exhaust cleaned at the beginning of each season of active use. As late summer approaches, check to see if these parts of your dehumidifier are in need of professional cleaning. Leaving these parts dirty can cause blockages within the system. Proper cleaning will improve the system’s efficiency.

Check the Motor

The fan motor on your system is a vital piece of the machinery, and it’s fairly easy to check on this. If the fan itself doesn’t seem to be rotating smoothly, it’s entirely likely that you will need a new motor. Given the complexity and sensitivity of this task, it’s best to leave the replacement itself to an expert.

If you find your dehumidifier needs additional maintenance or you simply want expert support, give Preferred Air Conditioning & Mechanical, LLC a call at either (772) 905-3358 in Port St. Lucie; or (561) 202-1422 in Palm Beach.
